Around the Choose to Soar camp, we frequently say: “Who\u2019s on the Throne?\u201d It\u2019s a great reminder to ensure God is in His rightful place in our lives instead of the many worthless idols we worship.<\/p>\n
Jonah 3:8 says, \u201cThose who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs.\u201d\u00a0 We tend to place more importance on temporary pleasure or healing than the mercy and grace that God freely gives. There is great importance placed on not worshiping \u201ccounterfeit gods.\u201d\u00a0 Look at the first commandment given to us, Exodus 20:3, \u201cYou shall have no other gods before me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Daily temptations to accept false gods can be a constant battle. Look at our schedules; they typically reveal our deepest love and loyalties. We like putting other broken people, things that only temporarily bring \u201crelief,” and ourselves on the Throne. Matthew, who was the tax collector turned follower of Jesus, reminds us, “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other.” (Matthew 6:24)<\/p>\n
God is not interested in being our #1 God. He wants to be our ONLY God! So, what do we do to keep Him as the ONLY God? The first thing is to love Him more. How do we do that? When we allow ourselves to be “filled with the fullness of God,” we are filled to the overflow. We get filled with His fullness by reading, soaking in His Word, praying, and praising. Now, there is no room for any false gods. Nor are they wanted. As we spend time with God, our hearts and minds begin to change, and our dependence on created things diminishes.<\/p>\n
We can stop looking at our money, hobbies, spouse, kids, career, or anything else to satisfy or save us. We are to enjoy the things God has created but not put them as our God. Put God in His rightful position as Sovereign Lord over your life and love and live from the overflow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
