Wimpy Faith

How would you describe your faith?

Unwavering.

Strong when things are going well.

Not bad for a part-time follower of Jesus.

          Wimpy.

Actually, your faith muscle is stronger than you think. Let me give you an example. This past week, did you drive somewhere? Most likely, you were driving down the highway at 65 + mph, and you met oncoming cars, filled with strangers, who don’t care anything about you, and you had faith they would stay in their lane. Yet, we don’t have enough faith in God to guide and provide for us? We have wimpy faith!

Faith wimps are throughout the Bible, but when I think of an unwavering faith to emulate, I think of Abraham. Abraham had tremendous trust in God, which was foundational in his leadership. God entered a convenient with Abraham and gave him promises of becoming a nation, granting him land, spiritual blessings, and the Savior of the world would come from his lineage. Abraham took God’s promises literally and acted accordingly. When you read Hebrews 11:8-10, Abraham not only obeyed without question, but he was eternity minded. To paraphrase verse 10, “Abraham was looking forward to a heavenly home.” What was vital here for his leadership and ours as well is not only Abraham’s trust in God but his heavenly focus did not conflict with his earthly pursuit.

When you can get to a perspective of being eternity minded in your decisions, leading, parenting, living life, YOU will be a game-changer.

Understanding how to have the perspective needed in a situation can be transformational. When your viewpoint filters through Jesus, you might just stop expecting stability from a broken identity.

Lord, thank you for those who have gone before us and their stories of faith. Father, help us to understand you more so our trust in you will grow. Grant us a thirst for your word with great insight. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
