The Power of a Voice by Lynne Freauf

I still remember from long ago, after a full day with two children, the way my ears felt. The non-stop questions, some whines, some bickering, and my ears felt tired at night.

Today, the sound of their voices blesses my heart. Talking to my grown granddaughters, or the giggles of my young grandson is refreshing to my soul and a joy to my ears.

Our journeys through this trauma of the pandemic may have been quite different, yet we all have been bombarded by all the voices of the differing approaches to our situation. We have been pelted with the noise of the relentless assault. It’s been exhausting.

When the Lord told Elijah to go and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for He was about to pass by, Elijah did so.

“A great and powerful wind tore the mountain apart and shattered the rocks, but the Lord was not in the wind. Then an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. Then a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. After the fire came a gentle whisper, and Elijah heard it.” 1 Kings 19:11

The Lord will not clamor for our attention. He calls us to put aside all the noise, and “Be still, and know that He is God.” Jesus calls us to “come away with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

Father God, let us dismiss the crowd and be alone with Jesus. Our peace and rest in found only in Him.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“Choose life, so that you and your children may live, and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him.”  Deuteronomy 30:20.
