In a couple of days, we will celebrate our freedom as a country. A.W. Tozer was an American Christian pastor, author, magazine editor, and spiritual mentor who wrote a prayer that can lead to freedom personally. This prayer expresses a desire to know more of God, the ultimate freedom giver. I encourage you to pray it slow and aloud.
“O God, I have tasted Thy goodness, and it has both satisfied me and made me thirst for more. I am painfully conscious of my need of further grace. I am ashamed of my lack of desire. O God, the Triune God, I want to want Thee; I long to be filled with longing; I thirst to be made more thirsty still. Show me Thy glory, I pray Thee, that so I may know Thee indeed. Begin in mercy a new work of love within me. Say to my soul, “Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.” Then give me grace to rise and follow Thee up from this misty lowland where I have wandered so long.”
Take a minute and answer the following question:
What is your “misty lowland?”
Once you name your “misty lowland,” use it in the above prayer.
Lord, let Your voice be louder than mine and grant me the courage to obey and rise up to live in Your freedom, and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Galatians 5:1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
Psalm 119:32 I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free.
