The Desires of the Heart…..

There has been no communication for nearly 25 years with a family member. Rarely a thought, barely a passing glance. Recently though, after several conversations with different friends about family, I had been thinking back to childhood days of long ago. And then, a couple of weeks ago, the Lord awakened me at 2:45 a.m. I begged for more sleep, assuring God we’d talk later. Immediately I knew what He wanted to talk about. The answer was a clear, “no,” so I was up.

I’ve heard it said that obedience delayed is disobedience. That is probably true most of the time. However, I know God is calling me to walk slowly, to pray hard, and to pray through. I need time to prayerfully follow God’s call to gradually construct a letter, saying exactly what God would have me to say. I also believe God is preparing the other’s heart to receive the letter I am to write. God’s timing will be perfect.

As for me, God has not only given me a heart to obey but an excited one. A heart that I thought had no feeling whatsoever now has hope for renewal and restoration. God does not necessarily put the desires we have in our hearts, but He can change the ones we have to align with his. And when that happens, there is joy and anticipation to wait on the Lord.

Of course, I have no idea what, if any, response I may receive. I do know that I will have the blessing of obedience in doing what God has asked me to do. The outcome is up to God.

Is there something God is calling you to step out and do? To reach out to someone? Be still before him, and seek the desires of his heart for you. Then wait on the Lord. Ps.27:14
