Sweet Caroline by Lynne Freauf

A few weeks ago, the granddaughter of a dear friend died in a car accident. She was going into her senior year of college, barely 22 years old. She was our Sweet Caroline.

Caroline was one of our precious grandchildren our prayer group prayed for each week. We started praying for her when she was in elementary school.

Though all of us grandmothers have walked in faith for many decades, our cry to God was still, “Why, Lord, why? Oh, Lord, not our Caroline!” Years spent in faith does not keep us from grieving the unimaginable. We are all in shock, numbed by the loss of one so precious, so beautiful, so young. Caroline lived a life of serving and loving deeply. Even in death, she gave life back to many others. That was our sweet Caroline.

Difficult days come to all of us; not “if” but “when.” And where do we go with our grief? Without faith and hope in Jesus, the answer is uncertain.

We pray your faith is rooted in the Trustworthy One, and know His plan is perfect for each life. As for us, we are at peace knowing that she is in the arms of Jesus, our Sweet Caroline.

“In this world you will have trouble, but take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
