Show Up and Surrender

Have you ever lost your passion for God?

Have you lost your desire for His Word and His ways?

Living in a broken world with “our feelings” guiding our decisions can cause us to be in a spiritual desert: tired, thirsty, and desperate for relief. We think we are the only ones in this desolate place, but look around, and you will see many others in the same situation. So, how do we escape? How do we get back to being led by the Spirit, being filled with the joy of Jesus’ salvation, and living with overflowing hope and peace?

Jesus made it simple for us. We show up and surrender!

Show Up: This is a commitment to be with the Lord alone, daily reading the Bible, praying, praising, and worshiping. It’s not a magic formula; the Lord wants to communicate with us more than we do. He wants to fill us with His Peace.

Surrender: Surrender is just that. When we show up to let God fill us, He will not if we are full of ourselves. We surrender our control. We surrender our thoughts to be replaced by His. We surrender our trust in ourselves, or others, to fully trusting in God.

Let me give you a prayer by A.W Tozer to help you start renewing your desire for the Lord right now. Do not let what I call “old spiritual language” stop you from praying this prayer.

“O God, I have tasted Thy goodness, and it has both satisfied me and made me thirst for more. I am painfully conscious of my need of further grace. I am ashamed of my lack of desire. O God, the Triune God, I want to want Thee; I long to be filled with longing; I thirst to be made more thirsty still.  Show me Thy glory, I pray Thee, that so I may know Thee indeed. Begin in mercy a new work of love within me. Say to my soul, “Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.” Then give me grace to rise and follow Thee up from this misty lowland where I have wandered so long. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
