Shalom

Shalom is the Hebrew word for peace. Not just peace as we think of it but much more than peace. It means wholeness, harmony, flourishing, and delight. It is peace that surpasses all understanding.

Shalom and sin are opposite.  The Lord hates sin because sin disturbs our shalom, our peace. It disrupts our harmony, wholeness, and our communion with God.  It disrupts the way God created us to be-which is in a relationship with Him and with one another.

The laws God gave us are His instructions on how to live in shalom. Many think the Ten Commandments were “rules we must adhere by to make God happy, to be good people.” But the intent of the laws was to show us the path for flourishing which God has mapped out for us.

A promise of peace is the following.

“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You. Because he trusts in you.”  Isaiah 26:3

Are you desperate for shalom? Maybe it feels like God is taking His time in quieting your storm. Don’t give up on Him, but trust Him even more. It is only Jesus alone who can offer the peace our hearts long for. Restoration, redemption, and reconciliation between you and God and others, is available. As the Apostle Paul tells us;

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

Shalom!
