Security in the Sunrise

Early this morning, I was in my office, and I just happened to look up and out the window.  What I witnessed, only a wordsmith could describe and give it justice.  What my simple eye saw was an array of pastels that was bursting forth from the horizon with beams of radiant pinks softened only by what looked like small puffs of smoke.   At that moment, as I stared at the sky, besides being a stunning picture of God’s work at hand, I felt a sense of security.  When I looked away, my eyes were drawn to some construction going on in our neighborhood. Then I heard in my Spirit, “when you look down, you see destruction, but when you look up, you will not be shaken.”

As I stared at the morning sky slowly fading back to its daytime color, I felt a sense of peace, almost refreshment-like. My few minutes of wonder made me think of some of His Words.

How sweet for God to remind me of this:

I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Psalm 16:8

Read these next scriptures slow and out loud:

Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him.

He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken.

My victory and honor come from God alone. 

He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. Psalm 62:5-7

David follows the above verses with great encouragement and something for us to pray every day.  

O my people, trust in him at all times.

Pour out your heart to him,

For God is our refuge.  Psalm 62:8,  

Notice what verse 8 doesn’t say. It doesn’t say, trust in him some of the time, or trust in him when you feel like it. Nope. It says trust in him at ALL times.

The next call to action is, Pour out your heart to who? To Him, to God. Why God? Because God is our refuge.  He is our sanctuary, our place of security. And He will never fade away.

 Father God, we praise your name from sunrise to sunset. Lord, we trust you, but if we are honest, we don’t trust you in all things at all times.  But we want to. Lord, help us to not lean on our own understanding but to trust you. To pour our hearts out to you, our rescuer, protector.  Help us to reject anything that detracts from our trust in the Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
