Run Your Race

Because the faith life is a fight, I read the book of 2 Timothy, Hebrews chapter 12, and Romans chapter 8 about once a week. These books from the Bible strengthen and sustain me.

Second Timothy equips and reminds me that God did not give me a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-control. Unfortunately, I need this reminder daily. Why? Because the assignments God has entrusted me (and you) with require battlefield knowledge. Second Timothy tells us that much like a soldier, athlete, or farmer; we must discipline ourselves, work hard, and be willing to sacrifice what is needed to run the race God has assigned to us. This book also explains how we can be an instrument in the Redeemer’s hands.

Romans chapter 8 encourages me by learning to live life through the Spirit. It encourages me to stop living like it’s Good Friday and start living like Resurrection Sunday!

And Hebrews Chapter 12 empowers me to persevere and run the race before me. The NIV translation of Hebrews 12:1-3 says it like this;

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Wow, just typing those Scriptures gets me fired up. You see, the race is now! And Jesus went to the cross, experienced everything horrific, SO THAT you and I will not grow weary and give up. We are here for a purpose. RUN YOUR RACE NOW!

The pandemic’s aftermath is draining our souls’ reserves, and the struggle to persevere is real. However, God gave us His Word for such a time as this. Friends, prioritize your time by reading the Scriptures, praying, and praising. Make an effort to be a clean willing, obedient vessel the Master can use for His purposes.

Your race marked out for you is not only where you will find tremendous joy, purpose, and a love you have never known but also prepares you for your eternal home.

What is keeping you from getting in the game and running your race?
