If you are closer in age to a Senior citizen than to a Senior in high school, you may remember a game show in the 1950s called ” Truth or Consequences”. It started on the radio in the ’40s and was last seen on TV in 1988. The premise was a contestant had to answer a nearly unknowable question or face the consequence of a funny stunt. A small town in New Mexico, Hot Springs, actually changed its name to Truth or Consequences in order to be chosen to host the tenth-anniversary program of the show.
Today we are seeking the truth about so many things that greatly affect our lives. After months of what now appears to be only opinion, we still really don’t know much truth about COVID 19. Masks, or no masks? Social distancing-6 feet or 10? Did a sinister nation develop this virus purposefully? Is it an evil plot to conquer the world?
This pandemic has wreaked havoc on our “normal” lives, and we’ve just about had enough. So where do we go for comfort, and more importantly, truth?
God’s Word is our only source of truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. When we can’t find answers that are more than mere opinions, God is our place of refuge and strength. He will tell us the truth and lead us in truth. Jesus tells us in John 8:31-32,
“If you hold to my teachings, you are my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.”
The truth is that Jesus leads us to the greatest consequence imaginable. Faith in Jesus means we will live on in eternity with him, though we die. We have a choice to believe in him or not. A life without Jesus is no life and means eternal separation. Have you said, “yes” to the One who is The Way, The Truth, and The Life? What will be the eternal consequence of your choice?
“Jesus answered,” I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me. ” John 14:6
