The Basics

The Basics

As a Certified Coach/Mentor to women on life and leadership, the first question I ask them, no matter what the circumstance, is “what does your devotion time look like?”. Why ask that question? Because it is all about the basics. Ask a professional athlete or musician how they stay at the top of their game, and they will tell you it is practicing the basics.

Not to put faith in a category to excel in, but to hear God’s voice and let His living water nourish our souls, we must spend time in His Word. Besides accepting Jesus as your Savior, reading the Bible is the necessary beginning of a relationship with the Lord.

The following two quotes from Oswald Chambers would be worth some time to ponder. One, “Keep your soul properly conditioned to manifest the life of the Son of God.” And two, “Let the Word of God always be living and active in you.

So how do we keep our soul properly conditioned? Well, for one, prioritize our time for the “basics” in our life. We take time to brush our teeth every day, have a cup of coffee, eat, put our mask on, etc. You get the idea. So, thinking we can take time to be with the Lord. (If you don’t know what a devotion time might look like, I am more than happy to share some ways/tools with you).

Here is the very first easy step:

Pray.

Pray what?

Pray for a thirst for His Word, and to prioritize your time.

Try this prayer launch:

Lord, grant me a thirst for Your Word. Father, will you stop the clock for the things I think I must get done and let 20 minutes of my day be spent intentionally with You. Let my words praise You, and Your promises nourish my soul. Let the love and sacrifice of Your Son stay on the forefront of my mind. I pray my life expresses and exhibits the essence of the sweetness of Jesus. Thank you, Lord, that you can turn my eyes away from worthless things and set my mind on things above. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
