21 Jul My All in All!
During my devotion time, I like to listen to worshipful instrumentals. Recently, when I was writing in my journal and listening to the song, “You are my All in All,” instead of going into the chorus again after the second verse, the instrumental went right into the song, “I Love You, Lord.” I stopped writing, hit replay, and there was something so soothing about the melody of these two songs, even more so when these two songs played without pause, together.
I started to sing along but soon realized I didn’t know the words as well as I thought. So I grabbed my handy dandy Baptist Hymnal off the shelf (I highly recommend you have one on hand, so useful for devotion, study, writing, etc). As I followed the words from the hymnal with the melody, “You Are My All in All,” it was just the thirst-quencher I needed as I was in a dry, dark place. I was empty, weary, and discouraged, and this, my friends, is not a good combination. To be honest, this is a recipe for “race quitters.” This is the recipe that our enemy is so good at creating and serving out.
Running the race Paul talks about in Philippians is not easy. And yes, because we live in a fallen world, having dark days is part of the race. I know there are many of you that have experienced and have survived dark days that are indescribable. I just read about an inscription discovered on the wall of a cellar in Germany during World War II where the Jews were hiding from the Nazis. The inscription read:
I believe in the sun even when it is not shining.
I believe in love even when not feeling it.
I believe in God even when He is silent.
No matter how dark the night, how dense the clouds, the sun is still at the center of our solar system, shining. SO IS GOD. He is still there, even if we can’t see Him or hear Him, He is in the center of all things, still shining, our All in All.
As I prayed and wrote these lyrics in my journal, my cup became full.
You are my strength when I am weak,
You are the treasure that I seek,
You are my all in all.
Seeking you as a precious jewel,
Lord to give up, I’d be a fool, (my favorite line)
You are my all in all
I love you Lord, and I lift my voice
To worship you; Oh my soul, rejoice.
Take joy, my King, in what you hear
May it be a sweet, sweet sound in your ear.
