Morning by Morning

 

After six days with no electricity, with temperatures plummeting to 1 degree outside, and a balmy 41 degrees inside, a day can make a huge difference.   If you painted a picture of the past week, you would see six inches of snow on the ground, temps were in the low teens, all restaurants and stores closed, grocery stores that were open had empty shelves, and gas stations out of gas. People were assessing the damages done from busted pipes, and neighbors were helping each other. This “historical moment” in the Dallas area started on Sunday night with extremely low temperatures and ended Friday with sunshine and high 40 degrees.  Saturday morning, there was more sunshine and 65 degrees with all evidence of snow gone.  What just happened?   

Last week, “Snowmageddon” reminded me of Lamentations 3:22-23, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.  They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness”.

You might remember the old hymn that refers to this scripture; “Great is thy faithfulness.”

Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness!

Morning by morning new mercies I see:

All I have needed thy hand hath provided,

Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

 

God’s mercy never loses power. God’s mercy never fails to meet our needs. God’s mercy never leaves you with an empty shelf. And God’s mercy is new every morning, specifically designed for our challenges of the day.  You may think sometimes His mercies are uncomfortable, but I promise you, they are laced with grace, only to get us to the ultimate comfort.  

 

Thank you, Lord, for new morning mercies. Thank you that all I have needed, thy hand hath provided. Great is your faithfulness Lord.  Father, when the darkness seems to be all we see, let us rest in your hope-giving mercies, knowing joy comes in the morning with new strength. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
