In Matthew 26, we find Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, praying in anguish to the Father. Jesus knew His time was near.
“My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done” (Matthew 26:.39, 42). Soon, Jesus would be found and arrested.
Was Jesus unsure of God’s ability when He asked, “If it is possible?” No, Jesus knew for certain God’s abilities and plan for Him. Jesus completely trusted God’s character.
Jesus was fully man and fully God as He walked the earth. He knew that He was to suffer and die on the cross. His sacrifice was in the Father’s hands.
When we have doubts, God can handle our questions. He alone can calm our fears and bring peace to any difficulty. When we know God’s character, we can trust His plan. When we read His Word, we can see how each Bible story is meant to minister to us, bringing peace and growing our faith.
“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this impossible, but with God all things are possible.’”
Mighty Lord God, how grateful I am that You are for me. You understand my weaknesses, and doubts. You allow me to be who I am, but You won’t leave me there. You want your best for me. I can be uncertain about me, my circumstances, others, for my trust is in You alone. You always give me light for the next step. That’s all I need. I praise You, my Lord and Savior, Amen.
