Fear can cause us to run and hide. Do we even recognize that we are running away from fear? Fear is one of the deadliest enemies we face in life. Fear keeps us from our purpose, prevents love, feeds our addictions, destroys our families, can literally make us sick. Fear has been around since the beginning of time. In Genesis chapter 3, “Adam ran and hid from God”. That was humorous to me, at first. Adam tried to hide from God. But I came to realize that Adam, aka, me, only became fearful because he had taken his focus off God, and let self-reliance kick in. God never left Adam; Adam left God.
I am thinking God knew we would always be in battle with our fears because, in the Bible, there are 365 scriptures, one for every day, that say, “Do not fear,” or “Fear not.”
Do you live a “Love-Driven Life” or a “Fear-Driven Life?” Are you making decisions out of fear and not out of love?
If you are living in the past, living with no real peace or contentment, or life is a constant struggle and stressful, you might ask yourself if fear is in your driver’s seat.
Fear can manifest itself in several ways. And it typically traces back to the fear of loss. We fear losing our control, our health, and our life. We fear losing our security, and our youthfulness. We have small fears, big fears, real fears, and a whole lot of imagined fears. An acronym I use is, F.E.A.R.= false- evidence -appearing -real. Those fears will keep your focus off God. Now obviously there are real fears. We all have difficulties we have to face that can be fearful, but difficulties can’t separate us from God—only fear can.
Can you name your top 3 fears? It is very difficult to name your fear for what it truly is. And confronting our fears is challenging but necessary if you want to live a life of freedom, purpose, quality, security, or in other words, “Love Driven Life.”
Scriptures tell us that “God is love,” and “there is no fear in love.” (1 John 4:18)
I will end with this story of Love versus Fear.
An old man said to his grandson, “Boy, I have two tigers caged within me; one of the tigers is love and compassion, the other is fear and anger.”
The young boy asked, “Which one will win, grandfather?”
The old man replied, “The one I feed.”
What are you feeding yourself? Are you focused on God or focused on your Giants (fears)?
Maybe think about praying and claiming this verse for yourself daily.
“So, __(your name)_________, do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
