Hope is not Hope without Patience

Last week I read the above statement, and it hit me in the best way possible. We are all most likely hoping for something. Whether it is a job, a baby, a relationship, healing, community, restoration, peace, and the list goes on. I am currently in a season of patience but waiting with hope.

In Romans 8:24-25, it says

“For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.”

Hope is a feeling of expectation, and expectation is a belief that something will happen. But life-giving hope is not seen. Waiting patiently and being led by the Holy Spirit will help us let go of our fleshly desires so that hope can take over.

No matter the season of life you are in, I bet, like me, you are hoping for something. Maybe it’s time we all take a deep breath and release the grip we have on hopeless things and open our hands to Him, the God of Hope, who calls us by name and knows the deepest desires of our hearts.

Lord, thank you for giving us Your Word to direct us to the truth that holds weight. Lord, will you help us in the journey of patience and putting all our hope in You. Lord, you are the Prince of Peace, Everlasting Father, our Hope Giver. Thank you, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
