I love being prepared for something. It gives me a sense of calm. It helps me feel confident, composed, and it gives me a sense of purpose in whatever lies ahead.
As our Creator, God knows this about us. He prepared a place for us to live. He didn’t drop us into the middle of darkness where everything was formless and empty. He spent several days preparing everything for us, a place of beauty and provision, a place where He would walk among His creation. He lovingly prepared the earth for us, and then He created us.
God prepares us by warning us about the enemy we face, telling us his tactics (lies and deceit) and his intent (to interfere with our trust in and devotion to God). Through the Holy Spirit’s guidance and teaching, God equips us to face life on life’s terms, do good works He prepared beforehand for us to do, and fight against any spiritual warfare Satan may use.
“But as it is written, ‘What no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has conceived—God has prepared these things for those who love him’” (1 Corinthians 12:9). How wonderful! And Jesus is preparing a place for His followers! He will come back and take us to be with Him.
God is a God of preparation. It is only through His unfathomable love for us that, from before the foundation of the world all the way to our future eternal home, our loving, omniscient Father has prepared everything and is preparing us in all ways so that we may be with Him always. May we be on our guard, stand firm in the faith, be courageous, and be strong (1 Corinthians 16:13), so that we may be prepared when He comes!
