Confession: I’m almost always struggling with internal shame over my mistakes. In my head, I understand God already knows everything, but in my heart, I wish He didn’t see my latest mistake. I can feel my heart building walls to keep God out. Like Adam and Eve in the garden, I foolishly (and wrongly) think I can hide from the Lord.
Any wall I construct might as well be made of glass. God still sees it all, and the walls I build only hurt myself, keeping me in isolation and fear. The fact that God sees everything, including my worst thoughts and moments, shouldn’t be a scary notion. It’s actually a sign of His incredible love.
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” —Romans 5:8 NIV
As you are, right this very second, you are fully known and fully loved. God already knows what you’ve done, and in Jesus Christ through His grace, He has traded your shame for freedom. Right now, I challenge you to confess to God out loud whatever shame you are carrying. Then, open your palms, let the shame fall to the ground, and walk forward in the complete freedom of Jesus Christ knowing that you are a loved and redeemed daughter of God!
“I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed.” —Psalm 34:4-5 ESV
