Enough

Enough

Is God enough for you? I mean, if everything you love and own is gone, would He still be enough? Our mindsets are such that we do life and add God along the way. But, shouldn’t it be God is our life, and everything else is a blessing?

In the Bible, Job said that God was enough. And this was after he lost his entire family and everything he owned. Talk about testing your faith. In Chapter 13, verse 15, Job says, “Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him; I will surely defend my ways to his face.” Sometimes faith of desperation is where faith goes to grow (or die).  We can so quickly get disillusioned with God when sorrow hits us personally, and then our faith begins to diminish. In James 1:6, Jesus’s brother tells us, “But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.”

Surely you have been there too. Maybe you trusted and believed God for something, and it didn’t happen, and with no fault of your own.  Job was confused too because God Himself said Job was blameless and upright.

Job questioned God; he did not understand why he was suffering (bad things happening) to him if he was a (good person).  Job did, however, come to rest in God is sovereign over everything. And his search for answers became unnecessary. He could trust God even in his suffering.

That seems a little super spiritual to me.  I am sure I wouldn’t have survived what Job went through, nor would I have trusted God as he did.  Job gets The Spiritual Giant Award of The Old Testament.

The good news for you and me is the questions and problems Job had are now answered perfectly in Jesus. Because of God’s grace and mercy of sending His Son to rescue us, we can now say, God is enough!

Is it hard to trust Him through our pain and loneliness? Yes, of course, it is! Jesus told us in this world we would have trouble, but He has overcome the world.

Maybe it’s time to start getting to know Jesus more, not more about Him, but Him personally. Read the book of 1 John. See how God is life, He is light, and He is love.  When you take the time to read His Word, God draws you in, doesn’t just give you information about Himself, but you will be transformed by Him. Then watch and allow God to be enough and see if He doesn’t do immeasurably more.

Father God, thank you for your Word. It brings life to us. Lord, give us a thirst for you and transforms us from the inside out. Thank you, Lord, that you are everything we need.  In Jesus name, Amen.
