Most times, my standard response to someone who asks, “how are you doing,” I respond with, “great, just busy.” I would feel a need to follow up with a confirmation of just how busy I was by saying, “I’m as busy as a three-legged cat in a litter box.”
I think it all started when I was a kid. If I stayed busy, it was a distraction from my reality. Could busyness be based on fear? Can “busyness” also imply “importance?”
I don’t know. What I do know is that God created people with different gears in which they live life. Some individulas walk, some trot, and some run. No matter the speed you use to navigate through life, you still have to be aware of “busyness.” Maybe you have seen this before, BUSY can be an acronym for B-being, U-under, S-Satan’s, Y-yoke.
Isaiah 55:2 is basically asking the question, “Why do you spend on what does not satisfy.” When my phone pops up with a weekly report of my daily use, it sets me back just how much time I have spent “scrolling.” Don’t get me wrong, I understand social media is part of our world, but again, why do we spend on what does not satisfy?”
Be realistic with your schedule! Time management is much like money management. With money, it’s not how much you make, it’s what you do with what you make. It’s the same thought process with our given time. We all have 24 hours, no one has more or less time than someone else. How is your time being spent?
Please don’t misunderstand me. The point is time is a precious commodity. We all experience seasons of life that our time is not our own, and keep in mind, that there is no such thing as balance! Ask a mom with three littles at home.
Maybe this is a reminder for you to reevaluate your schedule. I want to leave you with three thoughts to ponder and pray about:
- Is your time spent on activities/tasks that are burdensome or difficult?
- Difficult tasks and situations lead to purpose. Burdensome ones distract you from your purpose.
- Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12
