A Thorn in My Side

There are dozens of old adages that have been said and repeated innumerable times over the years. Your parents have probably quoted a few that you thought they made up.
Actually, dozens of quips and sayings are from the Bible. Did you know that “At my wits end!”  comes from Psalm 107:27?
And “That’s the blind leading the blind!” is out of Matthew 15:14?
We’ve all heard, and perhaps said, of a difficult situation, “Well, I guess that it’s just my Cross to bear!”
In 2 Corinthians 12:7, Paul says of an unknown but frustrating experience that he is dealing with, “Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh to torment me.”
King Jesus, as He was led to Calvary, carrying His Cross, bearing our sin and shame, wore an excruciating crown of thorns. He was Blameless, and yet He willingly gave up His life for each of us. This was far beyond an inconvenience, or a frustration. His life, death and resurrection, changed everything!
“Holy Lord, how often we all let words out of our possession that carry a heavy weight. Some words were your very life and death. You paid the ultimate sacrifice for us. Help us to be mindful of the cost before we speak. We love You so very much, and want to honor You with our lives. Help us to do that, Jesus. In your Powerful Name, Amen.”
